National Campaign on the Safe Use of Internet in Schools

The Ministry of National Education Preschool and Sports in Morocco organizes a national campaign to raise awareness on the Safe use of Internet in schools.  The campaign coincides with the Safer Internet Day and extends throughout February of each year; and it includes activities that address the risks that accompany the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and promote the safe and balanced use of Internet, through simplifying and introducing the basic rules of cybersecurity.

Purpose

  • Introducing good practices and sharing tips for a safe Internet use among children.
  • Introduce children, parents and teachers to the risks related to digital technologies.
  • Provide parents and teachers with practical solutions and tools for teaching and protecting children online.

Outcomes

This initiative became an annual campaign and the participants, of professors and coordinators, gained experience in organizing training workshops.  The campaign also presents an opportunity for innovation and creation of new means for promoting a digital culture and safe use of Internet.

Challenges

  • Reaching all stakeholders in the education sector to allow the campaign to reach all educational institutions.
  • Need for a continuous review and development of the means and tips provided, to  follow the developments in Internet.
