The Pension Information System of the Civil Service Employees Pension Fund was upgraded and enhanced to be integrated and connected with other government agencies and local banking systems.  Project implementation with various government agencies included several phases, including identifying, designing, and testing.  This was followed by the integration and communication among six government entities, including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour, Royal Oman Police, Public Authority for Social Insurance, and the Ministry of Social Development.

Challenges

  • Technical differences between entities in relation to technologies used, types of databases and network devices. This triggered standardizing information technology across government entities.
  • Systems performance issues related to inter-dependencies between systems. 
  • Security risks that might rise from the integration with external entities.

Lessons learned

  • Obtaining information from official and reliable sources increased the accuracy and efficiency of pension operations.
  • Cooperating and exchanging information with other government entities enabled the application of rules and regulations related to the retirement law.
  • Integration and communication with other government entities enhanced the efficiency of government services and provided real-time information to citizens and businesses.
